What is Preposition? (Definition of Preposition)

Preposition का इस्तेमाल Noun, Pronoun के साथ किया जाता है और जोकि Noun/Pronoun और वाक्य के दूसरे हिस्सों के बीच सम्बन्ध स्थापित करते हैं|

Preposition is a word which is usually used before a noun or pronoun and establish the relation between Noun, Pronoun, Phrase and other words within the sentence.

e.g. He go to school by bus.

    वह बस से स्कूल जाता है|

    He writes with the pen

    वह पेन से लिखता है|

    The book is on the table.

    किताब मेज के ऊपर है|

उपरोक्त सभी वाक्यों में highlighted words preposition हैं|

Preposition का इस्तेमाल दो वस्तुओ के बीच सम्बन्ध बताने के लिए किया जाता है| हिंदी में सम्बन्ध बताने वाले आठ करक होते हैं, कुछ शब्द होते हैं जैसे- से, में, को, पर इत्यादि| लेकिन English Grammar में कई Preposition होते हैं क्योकि हिंदी के एक शब्द ‘से’ के लिए English में ‘ with, since, for, by, from’ आदि शब्द होते हैं|

Kind Of Preposition- (Preposition के प्रकार)

मुख्यतः Preposition तीन प्रकार की होती है-

    1)    Simple Preposition

    2)    Compound Preposition

    3)    Phrase Preposition

Simple Preposition- At, On, By, For, From, In, Of, Off, Out, Till, To, Up, With, Down, Under, Since etc. को हम Simple Preposition कहते हैं|

e.g. The book is on the table.

    पुस्तक मेज पर है|

     I am with you.

     मैं तुम्हारे साथ हूँ|

Compound Preposition- कुछ Preposition को Noun (संज्ञा), Adjective (विशेषण) या Adverb (क्रिया विशेषण) में Preposition को Prefix करके बनाया जाता है, उन्हें Compound Preposition कहते हैं|

आसान भाषा में Noun, Adjective, Adverb में Preposition जोड़कर भी कुछ नए Preposition बनते हैं जिन्हें Compound Preposition कहते हैं|

जैसे Without, Within, Inside, Outside, behind, About, Underneath, Beyond, Before, Between etc. Compound Preposition कहते हैं|

e.g. Don’t talk about me.

    मेरे बारे में बात मत करो|

    Put him behind the bar.

    उसे सलाखों के पीछे डालो|

Phrase Preposition- जब कुछ शब्दों के समूह को एक Preposition की तरह इस्तेमाल किया जाता है तो उसे Phrase Preposition कहते हैं|

जैसे- According to, in spite of, in place of, in accordance with, on account of, in place of, in order to, due to, in lieu of etc. Phrase Preposition हैं|

e.g. In spite of so much hard work, he failed.

    कठिन परिश्रम के बावजूद वह फेल हो गया|
